DIY Enhanced Blade Controller Board
For travelers willing to lift a soldering iron.
At the back of the workshop, behind the Sabersmith's bench, the Engineering Coder works at the Kyber Interface Circuit Programmer. The boards she produces are the same ones that find their way into every enhanced blade the forge sells — only here, the board ships on its own, ready for a builder to install it in a blade they already own. Fully assembled. Fully programmed. Fully tested. The Engineering Coder will not, however, hold the iron for you.
Soldering skills and proper tools are required for this install. The board is not difficult to fit if you know what you are doing — but if you have not soldered before, the forge is honest with you: this is not the place to learn. Watch the install playlist in full before you buy. If any part of it looks past your reach, the full enhanced blade is the right path instead.
$40 per board. Stock and bench-availability are held at the forge's outpost on Etsy.
What the Engineering Coder builds
Every board is a drop-in replacement for the stock control board inside a Savi's Workshop blade and most Galaxy's Edge Legacy blades. It uses the same LED strip your blade already has — only the brain changes. The board arrives ready to install: assembled, flashed with the latest firmware, and tested on the bench before it leaves the workshop.
- 64 colors — the full enhanced palette, identical to the full blade upgrade.
- 7 lighting effects — pulse, shimmer, and more.
- 4 brightness settings — from dim ember to full forge.
- Fully assembled and tested — you install, the work is already done.
- $40 per board.
Before you buy
The Engineering Coder strongly recommends watching the full install playlist in the Outpost Archive before placing an order. Two videos in particular — removal of the stock control board and the soldering steps — will tell you immediately whether this is a project for you or whether the full enhanced blade is the wiser choice.
The full 7-step install playlist plus bonus walkthroughs lives at the Outpost Archive. Watch it cover-to-cover before lifting the iron.
A word on the design
The original board design and software are credited to Ruthsarian, whose work the forge stands on. The Engineering Coder has made small refinements over time, but the foundation belongs to Ruthsarian. Without that work, neither this DIY board nor the enhanced blade itself would exist.
$40 per board. Inventory at the forge's outpost on Etsy.
Common questions
What is the DIY Enhanced Blade Controller Board?
It is the same controller board that sits at the heart of every Black Spire Sabers enhanced blade, sold on its own for builders who want to upgrade a blade they already own. The board arrives fully assembled, programmed, and tested. The builder solders it into a stock Savi's Workshop or Galaxy's Edge legacy blade in place of the original control board.
Do I really need soldering skills?
Yes. Soldering is not optional and this is not the place to learn it. The install involves removing the stock controller, prepping LED strip contacts, and making several small precise solder joints under tight space constraints. Watch the full Outpost Archive install playlist before purchasing the board — if any of it looks uncertain to you, the full blade upgrade is a better path.
What does it unlock?
The same features as the full enhanced blade: 64 colors, 7 lighting effects (pulse, shimmer, and more), and 4 brightness settings. Roughly five hundred combinations from the same LED strip your blade already has.
Will installing this void my hilt warranty?
It voids the warranty on the blade — you are physically modifying it. The hilt itself remains untouched and continues to read your kyber crystals as it always did.
Will it work in a Legacy Saber blade?
It works in Savi's Workshop blades and in most Legacy blades that share the same control-board form factor. Some Legacy hilts use proprietary blades that the standard board does not fit. Watch the disassembly videos in the Outpost Archive to check your blade's internals before ordering.
Are there install videos?
Yes. The Outpost Archive holds a full 7-step install playlist plus bonus walkthroughs. The playlist covers stock-blade teardown, board testing, removing the original controller, contact prep, soldering the new board to the LED strip, soldering battery and ground connections, and reassembly.
Who designed the board?
The original board design and software are credited to Ruthsarian. The Engineering Coder at the forge has made small refinements over time. Without Ruthsarian's foundational work, neither the enhanced blade nor this DIY board would exist.
How does shipping work?
The board ships from the forge via Core-to-Outer Rim Express (CORE). It is a small parcel — friendly shipping. Combined shipping discounts are available when ordering with other forge goods.
